When you mention Bayswater and Iranian food in the same sentence, most foodies would think ‘Alounak’, however literally opposite the road is this gem of a restaurant. The restaurant itself is slightly smaller but it has a lighter ambiance than Alounak.
I always tend to order the mixed selection of cold starters, the aubergine in this selection is probably the best I’ve had. Moving on to mains I always order the mixed grill for two (and of course share it with someone). It contains two skewers of koubideh, a skewer of chicken koubideh, lamb chops and chicken wings, so this is more than sufficient for two MEN. What I particularly like about this the wings are juicy and not overcooked, the chops are very meaty and it’s not often you get a chicken koubideh with a mixed grill. The naan made here is fresh and overall it is an excellent dining experience. Another great dish to have, which is sold on weekends is their lamb shank in dil rice. The lamb is so tender it falls off the bone, combined with the flavour of the rice, it’s probably the best lamb shank I’ve had in London.
The mixed grill is priced at £32 pounds which for what it gives is cheaper than most Iranian restaurants in london and at the time of writing this post, the Sadaf mixed grill is my favourite Iranian mixed grill in London, better than Behesht, Alounak, Mahdi’s (Swiss cottage) and even Tandis. There are still many Iranian restaurants to visit, but for now this is the go-to place in london for Iranian food.
Food 4/5 – every dish I have had from here has been excellent.
Service 3.5/5 – not a problem with the service.
Value 3.5/5- it’s around £15-20 per head.
Venue 3.5/5 – a little bit of a walk from bayswater station but overall a good venue.
SAS 4/5 – I particularly liked the fact the food had more flavour than most other Iranian restaurants. Mixed grill selection was different to others and it works very well.
No alcohol/non halal meat is served here but does have BYOB policy.
Overall – 18.25/25
