Lahore Kebab House, Aldgate
There are a number of curry houses around Aldgate/Whitechapel, however Lahore kebab house is by the most established of them all. It’s packed out on Fridays and weekends so you will never see a person standing outside it asking you to come in because they have the won an imaginary ‘best chef’ award.
I have come here several times and what we order doesn’t tend to change:
– Lamb Chops
– Chicken tikka
– Karhai Gosht (lamb) and chicken
– Seekh kebab
– Malai kulfi
– (thin) roti and naan
Their seekh kebab are probably the best seekh kebabs I’ve had in London, spicy and moist. The lamb chops are full of flavour and most impressively for me is the Dahl. I normally despise Dahl but when blended with its tarkah (a process of adding herbs, garlic and spices whilst the Dahl is being made) the added great flavour is amazing because of the spice and giving it a nice thick texture.
The rest of the food is ok, nothing else particularly stands out. The chicken tikka doesn’t have much flavour, but it bodes well when you make a roll out of it with the seekh kebab.
Food 3.5/5 – good Lahori food
Service 4/5 – the staff are used to serving high numbers. A generous complementary portion of popadoms are served.
Value 3.5/5 – about £12/15 per head if you go in a group of 4.
Venue 4.5/5 – the venue itself is simple but enormous. There is good access to parking and tube stations aren’t far away.
Alcohol is served here but no non halal meat.
