Loaded Burgers, Ilford

This place was suggested by Morts, he has a keen eye for a good burger and he first introduced me to Red Iron Burgers. Big beefy gourmet burgers are amongst my favourite of foods, so I was eager to try this.

I have come here a few times now and I think these arethe best burgers on the East of London. I have been able to try a number of their burgers, my favourite is called ‘toad’ with an extra beef patty and potato waffle. The ribs are great, a saucy BBQ marinade with soft meat off the bone. The Buffalo wings served here are huge and I would recommend you order them. As for the drinks the Mojitos are refreshing and their piña colada has a generous quantity and is pretty good too.

For the average person the burger itself it’s just fine, the meat used is good quality 8oz gourmet patties. You can make your own burger, there a lot of variety to choose from. But if you are a carnivore there is the ‘Fully Loaded’ burger. This burger contains: chicken, beef and lamb patties, turkey bacon, turkey ham, onions, caramelised onions, egg, potato waffle, lettuce, tomato and a choice of sauce. Yes, the first thing that came to my mind was ‘where is the halloumi?’

However you MUST specify how you want your burger cooked, else it would be made ‘well done’. I would advise you ask for ‘medium’ or ‘medium well’. Personally I thought the lamb patty was not moist enough and the chips could be improved. Lastly the entrance is very crammed and congested, it would be helpful if there was some space for people waiting.

Food – 4/5

Service – 4.5/5 – food is made promptly and the staff are friendly.

Value – 4/5 – you could fill yourself with under £15.

Venue – 3/5 – the restaurant itself is nice and the theme is well executed. The restaurant is located close to Ilford rail station for anyone taking public transport. But I am not a fan of the waiting area.

SAS – 4/5 – well executed gourmet burger house. You won’t come across many halal equivalents to a ‘Fully Loaded’ burger in london, that burger is an experience within itself.

Overall – 19.5/25
